There’s not much to say other than I haven’t been myself lately. It feels a bit like distracted impatience, like being without options on the brink of something important.  It’s time for a staring contest in front of the mirror. I need to reflect on this. (See what I did there? My sense of humour is still well intact, my friends.)

I think I’ve had the ‘nice guy syndrome’ since Grade 11.  It’s not like I’ve been finishing last. But I want to step on that podium… with the confidence level of 562 rampaging Italian stallions, or this guy.

The Recovered Gigabytes
“That’s ridiculous”, was the response I muttered to myself witnessing my Macbook come back to life with a new hard drive today.  I’ve lived in Mac OS my whole life, with no regrets. There has never been any drama, trauma, or unexpected surprises except this one hardware failure. The only true surprise I’ve ever encountered was during my data backup: it was absolutely...

If you seek tangible progress within yourself, go to the gym, keep going to the gym, and look into the mirror. Remember to like what you see and pat yourself on the back. (Also, don’t forget to warm down with stretches.)

The Anxious Ambitions
My back has a fresh and fourth stab wound by none other than my school’s internship program. Based on what I had initially hoped to achieve, each of them have more or less failed me. Job descriptions can be more fictitious than a children’s short story (where the story is about superhero unicorns who battle airborne zebras on a plant very far from ours). My career-related ambitions...

Here’s some annoying fate: I went to the mall and bought a leather jacket (which wasn’t originally planned). Only when I reached home did I realize that the old sport jacket I was carrying on the way to the mall is no longer in my possession. A little strange. It’s lost surely somewhere in SportChek, because I was planning on getting running shoes. I rarely lose things. But...

Three engineering students were gathered together and discussed the possible designers of the human body. One said, “It was a mechanical engineer. Just look at all the joints.” Another said, “No, it was an electrical engineer. Notice the nervous system’s many thousands of electrical connections.” The last said, “Actually it was a civil engineer. Who else...

UW Pride #1
The pattern on the face of Engineering 5, the new building on land that was formerly parking lot B on the east side of campus, isn’t metal and isn’t really three-dimensional. “The pattern is made with what’s called fritted glass,” says Daniel Parent, director of design and construction services. Dots are etched onto the glass panels, “to give the impression of...
