After 48 minutes of daydreaming, musing, spacing out, thinking, critical thinking, thinking out loud, scenario visualizing, synonym searching, mumbling, staring, rephrasing, Googling, metaphor inventing, and back-spacing…  I have nothing, and the cap is screwed back tight on the bottle.  500 mL of sentiment.

I’m getting used to these contact lenses.  I’ve been pretty excited about making headers in soccer games and flinching less when going for a block in volleyball. For the first time in my life I get to wear sunglasses. I also don’t have to worry about condensation or fogging. I can run as fast as I like and sweat accordingly now that there’s nothing that will slide down the...

The 21 Runs
I ran the first because I was cold and adrenalized. I ran the second because I didn’t want to fall behind. I ran the third because I cranked up the volume. The Third Take
Back in academic asylum (not the psychiatric kind I think).  Instead of pulling out packed lunches and pencils, I’m pulling out self-discipline and levelheadedness (maybe for the first time). A refresher in risk assessment and management: —- To laugh is to risk appearing the fool. To weep is to risk appearing sentimental. To reach out is to risk involvement. To expose feelings is to risk exposing your true self. To place your ideas and dreams before a crowd is to risk their loss. To love is to risk not being loved in return. To live is to risk dying. To hope is to risk...

The Ring Count
On occasion, I think of myself as a young tree with wooden stakes wired around me for support. It was my parents who meticulously positioned those stakes around me and prevented me from growing askew.  I’ve been away from home for quite some time, and maybe I’ve wiggled loose of the stakes. There hasn’t been anyone to hammer them in again, or replace the rusted wires....
