Why do ‘Save’ icons in modern GUIs still resemble 3.5-inch floppy disks?
Yes, it’s a universally recognized icon and GUI consistency across platforms is a blessing but I think it’s just far too outdated.
The downward directed arrow icon with a line or a box under the arrow head is becoming quite widespread. I think this should be the new ‘Save’ icon. The line or box under the arrow head can be modified into a minimalistic hard disk.
And a new download icon may adopt a ‘networking globe’ background to differentiate it from the new ‘Save’.
